The Wisdom of Worship

“The fear of (reverential trust in) the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” (Proverbs 9:10)

True wisdom begins and continues with a right and intimate relationship with God. Heavenly wisdom in everyday life is possible only when you are a God-worshipper.

The big deal about having wisdom is not merely about making the right daily decisions but about getting in touch with God’s heart. It is mainly about having an intimate communion with God.

So we see here what really our problem is. Adam and Eve then had a very intimate relationship with God. They can talk to God. God walks with them in the Garden. This was real communion with God. But this relationship was broken when they desired to be wise in their own way, apart from God and his word (Gen. 3:6). Because of that, they were cast out of the presence of God (3:23-24).

Until now that is still our problem. God created us to give him glory. He wants us to worship him. But we disobeyed him. He should be at the center of our lives but we dethrone him from his rightful place.

We messed up. But God’s intention remains the same. Like then, he still wants us to worship him alone. He wants us to worship him forever. God is determined to remove anything that hinders that purpose. When we are stubborn, he powerfully breaks our self-centered heart and turn it into a God-desiring heart.

That’s worship. That’s the wisdom of worship. When you sense that your life is not focused on him, I pray that these two stories from the life of Solomon may help you live with the wisdom that comes from God and a heart passionate to give him glory.
