The story of the Protestant Reformation is a recovery of the gospel. At yung gospel na ito ay summarized in the five solas of the Reformation. At the heart of the gospel is the doctrine of justification by grace alone (sola gratia) through faith alone (sola fide) in Christ alone (solus Christus). Saan galing ‘yan? By what authority ang basis natin ng doktrinang iyan? From Scripture alone (sola Scriptura). Para saan ang lahat ng iyan? For the glory of God alone (soli Deo gloria). The five solas are practical. They are historical. But more importantly, they are biblical. Kailangan natin ng rediscovery of the gospel today in our churches. We need a modern reformation.

Everything we are doing, trying to do, and must do in our church is about disciple-making. We are not just trying to make converts, na pagkatapos mabaptize, ayos na. Kasali iyon. Pero ang misyon natin ay higit pa doon. Our mission is to make disciples of all nations. At kung ‘yan ang nag-iisang misyon natin, mainam na alam natin ang ibig sabihin nito.
Ang isang disciple ay sumusunod kay Jesus, binabago ni Jesus, at ibinibigay ang buhay sa misyon ni Jesus. We’ll explore this definition in this book. At kaugnay nito, titingnan natin ang anim na bahagi ng identity ng isang disciple – learner, worshiper, family member, servant, missionary and disciple-maker.

Wala nang tanong na mas mahalaga pang sagutin maliban dito: “Sino si Jesus?” at “Ano ang isang Cristiano?” Sa Following Jesus, makikita natin ang itinuturo ng Bibliya sa sagot sa mga tanong na ito: Si Jesus ang Panginoon ng lahat na namatay para sa ating mga kasalanan at muling nabuhay sa ikatlong araw. That is the gospel.
Ano naman ang isang Cristiano? Siyang naligtas sa pamamagitan ng biyaya ng Diyos, nagsisisi at tumatalikod sa kasalanan, at nagtitiwala at sumusunod kay Jesus.
