2018 Holy Week Devotions – Day 1

“For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified” (1 Corinthians 2:2 ESV).

Paano ba lumalim sa pagkakakilala kay Cristo?

That’s a good question to ask, if ever dumating ka na sa point ng buhay mo na itinanong mo na yan. I think that question signals a desire in your heart to progress in your faith and knowledge of God. The problem is, most of us are probably not ready for the answer. God shows us the answer and we will probably look at it sadly like the rich young ruler did – walking away sad because we cannot let go of the things Jesus was asking for us to give up.

But the hope is this – that if you desire the glory of God to be lifted up in your life, the Holy Spirit makes deeper faith possible. In my life, this was preceded by a better understanding of my sin and how Jesus saved me.

Growing deeper in the knowledge of Christ necessitates a true understanding of your sinful nature. Hindi pwedeng mangyari yung lalalim ka kay Cristo pero hindi mo naiintindihan yung kasalanan mo. You have to evaluate yourself correctly, and that only happens kapag nakilala mo ang tunay na Diyos – yung Diyos na makapangyarihan, yung Diyos na banal, yung Diyos na galit sa kasalanan. What shall you feel if you get to know this holy God?

Takot. Fear. It is there that you will realize na walang karapatang tumayo sa harapan ng isang banal na Diyos ang isang makasalanan na tao na tulad mo at tulad ko.

But don’t worry, because this is where the story turns. Seeing how big my sin was in front God now made me realize how great and beautiful the Cross is – which has become my only way to survive God’s anger against sin. Buti na lang. Buti na lang talaga at namatay si Cristo para sa kasalanan ko.

Only by processing it this way will you begin to deepen your amazement and awe of the Gospel, your love for Christ, and your commitment to making disciples – because there are more people out there than you can count who are hopeless and need the Hope that you have encountered in Christ.
