We measure success in our pastoral ministry na para bang ang disenyo ng Diyos sa church ay katulad lang din ng sistema sa mundong ito. We feel successful kapag mas marami ang attendance ‘pag Sunday, ‘pag mas maganda ang church facilities, ‘pag mas malaki ang budget, ‘pag mas attractive ang mga programs. Kapag nakatali ang identity natin sa mga bagay na ito, we become prideful when we experience “success.” Sa kabilang banda, many pastors succumbed to depression at ang iba ay umaayaw na talaga, lalo na kung lagi na lang “failures” ang nararanasan nila.
Kailangang hanapin at yakapin natin ang “identity” natin kay Cristo – hindi sa posisyon natin sa ministry, hindi sa kalidad ng preaching natin, hindi sa popularity natin, hindi rin sa mga programa natin sa church. Kailangan natin ang isa’t isa para ipaalala sa atin ang centrality ng gospel sa buhay at ministeryo natin bilang mga pastor. It is vitally important that we reflect on how the gospel and our union with Christ shape our life and ministry.
So, how do we become a “gospel-shaped pastor”? This is the burden of this conference as we dig deeper into God’s precious Word together.
