Today marks my eighth anniversary in pastoral ministry. It was February 1, 2009 when Baliwag Bible Christian Church affirmed God’s calling for me to serve them as their Leading Pastor. It was both thrilling and humbling.
Never have I regretted (okay, honestly, maybe just once) leaving my work as a water resources engineer at San Miguel Corporation to work full-time as a pastor/preacher (which in a spiritual sense can also be called a water resources engineer).
I thank my wife Jodi for supporting, affirming and even lovingly correcting me when I needed it, for crying with me whenever we face heartaches in serving and loving others, and for inspiring me to love the lost, the hurting and the needy.
I thank our church family for their joyful submission to my leadership, for being patient in my growth as their pastor, and for pushing me to go deeper into the gospel and wider in the world with them.
I thank God, most of all, for his grace (undeserved and overflowing) in calling me to be his child, an ambassador of King Jesus, a shepherd of his flock, a herald of his gospel, and a prophet to awaken churches and other pastors to the centrality of the gospel in life and ministry. My resolve to be the presence of Jesus to the broken, the hurting and the unreached has not waned but is getting stronger every day.
“For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen” (Romans 11:36 ESV).
