One ordinary Wednesday morning, as I was on my way to the seminary where I teach, I saw something out of the ordinary. While crossing the pedestrian overpass, I noticed that many people were looking up. So I also looked up to see what the commotion is all about. Then, I saw this young man on top of the billboard trying to commit suicide.

I saw some of the people around me making fun of him and urging him to kill himself quick. I felt sad that many people don’t value the life of that one lonely, desperate man.
There’s nothing much I can do at that moment (I’m not Superman!) but pray and tell Jesus, “You alone can rescue, you alone can save…”
After three hours of that real-life drama, he was rescued.
But we need to realize that that man and all of us are in a much greater danger than physical pain or death. We need to be rescued. Desperately. And there’s only One who can do that for us.
If you want to know why I said that, I invite you to listen to part 10 of the sermon series The Story of Jesus based on the story of Luke 7:1-17. You can also read, download, and share this sermon to your friends.
