You and Jonah

If God draws near through his word and billions of people in the world still live a life totally separate from God, then we must do something. We who are now near to God because of his Word through Jesus Christ are given the mandate to bring this same Word to them. By “we” I mean all of us, not just pastors or missionaries, but all Christians, all who call themselves followers of Jesus.

Yes, we make these excuses: “I’m too busy”; “I don’t have enough resources”; “I have too many problems to take care of other people’s problems”; “I’m not trained”; “I don’t have the courage to do that”; “I’m still too young”; “I’m now too old”; “It’s not my calling.” I’m sure you can add more excuses to this list. But are these things the real reason? Or, is there really an acceptable excuse for disobedience?

Or probably, we just have to admit that our heart is like the prophet Jonah…
