Pray through God’s Story (Week 10)

As you read God’s Word, God is also inviting us to talk  to him. So I invite you now to quiet your heart, sit still, pray God’s Word – his commands and promises – back to him.

The great and awesome God pursues stubborn people in love and mercy. (Deuteronomy 10:14-17)

Father in heaven, you are the God of gods and the Lord of lords, the great, the mighty and the awesome God. Nothing compares to you. Nothing even comes close to your majesty. You own the heaven and the earth; you own everything; you own my life. Even though I am stubborn many times, you pursue me not in your wrath but in your love. I don’t deserve this goodness from you. You deserve my whole hearted worship and devotion.

Pray for the transformation of your heart toward more love for God. (Deuteronomy 6:4-6)

Change my heart, O God. I confess that I don’t love you as much as you want me to. I confess that my heart longs for other things more than I long for you. Will you forgive me, Lord? And will you change my heart that I may always long for your love, be passionate for your glory, and love you with all my heart and soul?

Pray that you may discern God’s discipline and submit to his will. (Deuteronomy 8:5-6)

I confess also that I hate discipline, because it is painful and because it makes war against my pride. Will you change my attitude toward your fatherly discipline? Will you make my heart embrace your will in my life?

Pray for your own children and other children God has placed a special burden in your heart. (Deuteronomy 6:7-9)

I am praying for my son Daniel. I am praying that he will also grow up loving you with all his heart and soul. That he will give his all for you as you have given your all for us. Use me to teach him how to love you by words and by deeds. I pray also for the children our church are reaching out to, that they may learn how to love you. Touch the hearts of their parents that they may know you and take their responsibility seriously to raise their children with reverence for you.

Pray for the orphans and widows, and our ministry to them. Pray also for our hospitality to strangers and foreigners. (Deuteronomy 10:18-19)

I am praying for the orphans that they may find a father in you, a father who provides for all their needs, and teaches them how to live their lives. May they find a mother in you, a mother who will care for them and nurture their soul. I am praying also for all the widows and widowers, that they may find a husband or a wife in you, that you will caress them with your love, embrace them with your mercy, kiss them with your tender care. I am praying also for all the foreigners in our land, that they may find their refuge, comfort and joy in you.

Pray for God physical provision and spiritual provision for your family. (Deuteronomy 8:3)

Our heavenly Father, provide for everything we need today. Provide food and clothing and shelter for our family. More importantly, provide for the food of our soul, strength of our heart, and protection from the assaults of the Enemy against our family. May your Living Word be our food and shelter everyday.

Praise the Lord for his grace in your life. (Deuteronomy 7:6-8)

You grace is truly amazing, Lord. You set us apart for your glorious purposes. You treat as a your treasured possession, even though we are utterly unworthy. You love us not because we are lovely, but because your love is everlasting and boundless.
